The “THE RESEARCH CLUSTER FOR THE PREVENTION OF SEXUAL ABUSE” will be innovative research and impact driven centre framed around the Epidemiological Criminology (EpiCrim) approach to preventing all forms of sexual abuse. The EpiCrim framework is rooted in a multidisciplinary approach which links health, sociology, education, psychology, politics, and criminology together across the different socio-ecological levels (individual, relational, community, & societal). In using the EpiCrim framework to understand sexual abuse, this cluster will emphasise that sexual abuse is a political, community, and life course issue; and as such requires a collective response. The cluster will focus on the core components of the EpiCrim framework (i.e., the four public health levels of prevention, the socio-ecological model, & Multiagency working) through four research and practice streams,
Community & societal understanding of sexual abuse (primary prevention)
- Working with “at risk” populations (secondary prevention); –
- Treatment & rehabilitation (tertiary prevention); &
